Text Height in AutoCAD – dummies

Text height can be a tricky thing in AutoCAD. Drawing scale is the traditional way to describe a scale with an equal sign or colon — for example 1/4” = 1’-0”, 1:20, or 2:1. The scale factor represents the same relationship with a single number, such as 48, 20, or 0.5. The drawing scale factor […]

standard text size 1/8 or 3/32? – Autodesk Community

Re: standard text size 1/8 or 3/32? I work mostly on P&ID’s, piping and electrical drawings. My personal preference is for 3/32" for general text, with 1/8" reserved for equipment names, titles and the like.

Updated: Standard Text Height in Construction Drawings …

4/11/2005 · The standards do not dictate any size of text, but the minimum size for CAD drawings is 3/32", or 2.4mm. Oddly, the standard mentions hand lettering, with minimum text size of 1/8", or 3.2mm. Some of the respondents discussed reducing 30"x42" drawings down to 11"x17" or smaller as a reason to go to larger text size.

Text Heights in Drawings – Draftsperson.net

7/29/2019 · This does not effect the line work, but does effect the text. Choosing the right one can be expressed in a simple formula: Drawing Scale x Suitable Text Height at 1:1 = CAD Text Height. Therefore, the standard text height in a 1:10 drawing would be 25mm OR 10 x 2.5 = 25. A 1:250 drawing would use 625 high text OR 250 x 2.5 = 625. Got it?

Standard font height and type for engineering drawing …

Prior to CAD, our hand lettering standard was 1/8″ text height to remain legible for half-size sets. After CAD was introduced, since the computer-generated, plotted output provided more clarity, we reduced our text height standard to 3/32″ to gain more real-estate in our drawings, which reduced sheet count in the sets, thereby passing more savings to our clients.
